Flex EnvokeIT Logger

What does the Flex EnvokeIT Logger update provide? Have you ever wanted these type of questions answered in the Service Call created by your helpdesk or support technicians?

  • Which server did the server log on to when the problem occurred?
  • When did the user logon?
  • Did the user get all Folder Redirections applied in the session when the problem occurred?
  • Has the user been able to logon after the error was reported to the helpdesk?

Today it’s not so simple for a helpdesk agent to gather this information without going to several sources like; Resource Manager, Event logs, MOM etc. What we did was to simply write a couple of functions that writes this information to logon and logoff logs every time the user logs on or off. And these logs can be saved to a share that both helpdesk agents and second, third level support have permissions to. And the number of log files to save is easily configurable.

Here is an example of a log share path; \\ENVOKEIT\Flex_EnvokeIT_Logs\%USERNAME%\Logs

Under the folder all log files are listed as shown below;

The log files can then easily be accessed by the service desk agent or any other technician using the EnvokeIT Log Viewer application shown below;

This application can be published to the agents or they can run it on a standalone workstation.

Selecting a log file under a user folder will trigger the Log Viewer to gather the main content of the log file and present the data in the right frame textboxes so you don’t have to open the log files over and over again.

Double-clicking a log file node triggers Log Viewer to open the log file in Notepad so the agent can check its full content.

The first time Log Viewer is launched a settings file is created under %APPDATA%\EnvokeIT\LogViewer that stores the path to the log file share entered in the settings window shown below;
